One of my favorite cleaning products is the magic eraser by Mr. Clean. It truly is like magic the way it removes scuff marks, ink stains and other “permanent” marks from walls.
What if we could carry a magic eraser with us? We could clean up conversations, get into action faster and not be paralyzed by fear.
Often we get stuck because we think that conversations, situations or decisions are irrevocable. We overthink, overanalyze and overstress because we believe we have to get it right when things, like the ink on the wall, are permanent.
What if every interaction or decision was not viewed as forever? This eraser perspective can give us freedom and reduce stress. It can take the form of apologizing, stepping back and changing courses, revisiting a conversation, relocating or changing positions if the situation isn’t right.
When we are willing to use an eraser, it is easier to take risks and be open to new possibilities.
While we can’t erase history, knowing we can take corrective action to clean up situations or conversations can give us freedom.
