As we develop our goals for the year remember this: “How” will kill a good “why” any day. Asking why connects us to our purpose. “Why are we doing something?” “Why is it important?” The answer to this question can motivate us.
If we get too bogged down in how, we can become blocked from discovering why. We limit our thinking.
Once we know our why, brainstorming how can give us focus. Goals help us to begin thinking about how we will accomplish our why. They give us structure.
By having a powerful why and possible hows, we listen differently to conversations. We listen for ways to fulfill our goals.
We ask questions that align with our desired outcomes. We are more intentional because we become proactive in seeking answers to our why and how.
Having a good why will give you focus. Stay clear on the why and it will help you to navigate the how.
