As many of you know, I have been a life-long New Orleans Saints fan. I have seen them evolve from the brown bag “Aints” to the Super Bowl Champions.
Needless to say, I (and many others) have been extremely disappointed and disheartened to learn about their bounty strategy. Paying to go after other players with the possibility of injuring them is unacceptable. This has no place in a game plan to win, despite what other teams do.
Vince Lombardi said, “Winning isn’t everything. It’s the only thing.”
Winning is not everything. It matters how you play the game. In fact, one company in Columbus incorporates this philosophy, into their corporate values.
Character, integrity and doing the right thing apply to any organization.
Does your team play by the rules? How do you educate and enforce ethics? What boundaries and examples do you set?
We never hear another quote Lombardi said, “You don’t win once in a while, you don’t do things right once in a while, you do them right all the time.”
Winning is rewarding. And yes, it does matter how you play the game. Character must be a part of any game plan.
