We all know that April 15th is tax day in America. Many of us have already filed while others are going to the Post Office today to send in our returns or file for an extensions.
When I talk with people I find that they clearly fall into one of these camps. The early filers do not like to procrastinate and the extenders either procrastinate or did not receive their documents timely.
Procrastination can often cause anxiety. Usually we put things off because:
- We are overwhelmed
- We are not motivated
- We lack discipline
- We do not possess the skills or know how
- We have poor time management abilities
- We are stressed
- We seek perfection
If you’re upfront with yourself you can determine why you are procrastinating in any given situation. As we know, it varies based on the assignment and other factors mentioned.
There are solutions for each cause which numerous books in the self-help or business section will prescribe. For now, ask yourself what is the emotional or actual expense you are paying?
The anxiety, psychic energy drain or true cost in delayed deadlines may be a tax that you are needlessly creating throughout the year. Fortunately you do not need an act of Congress to revise your codes if you are in this high bracket.
