We said goodbye to legendary visionary and entrepreneur, Steve Jobs, last week.
By now you have seen many quotes and commencement addresses he gave. One quote that he said seems timely.
“Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. Remembering that I’ll be dead soon is the most important tool I’ve ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life.”
Jobs was a big thinker and unafraid to take risks. Fear did not stop him. Death gave him a profound perspective.
While most of us don’t have death staring at us as closely as Jobs, who suffered from pancreatic cancer, we all have limited time.
Taking chances, living boldly and stretching out of our comfort zone all pale compared to death. As Jobs said, the fear of failure or making mistakes are traps where we think we can lose. Death can awaken us to live fully.
He inspired us to live our passion and dreams and that anything is possible if we believe in ourselves. “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life… “We’re here to put a dent in the universe,” he said.
