I was hiking over the weekend. The trees were magnificent. Their roots formed the steps of the path that allowed us to continue moving forward. Like life, our roots form the foundation for our journeys. They provide the basis for our next steps. When they are strong and honored, they support us. When they are weak, we may have trouble moving forward.
Our roots vary. They can be from the past or be necessary for our well-being. For some of us they are family, friends, community or religion. For others, they may be personal growth, connection, quiet time or giving back. Roots form our essence and are what we need to sustain us.
I encourage you to reflect on your roots.
- What are they?
- How do you nurture them?
- How often do you deepen them so that you continue to grow?
Life, like hiking, is a journey along a path. We use the roots as our foundation and the leaves to add sparkle. It’s important that we make sure that we have strong roots to take the next steps.
