I went to my husband’s college reunion this past weekend. We toured these beautiful gorges that surrounded the campus. Some people in our group had never seen them during their time at school because they were so focused on their studies. Their fear of failing had prevented them from enjoying most anything but studying.
They regretted missing the experience of something right in front of them. They said if they had known then what they know now, they would have enjoyed school more.
How often do we miss being in the moment and seizing opportunities because worry, doubt and fear overtake us? Mark Twain said, “I’ve experienced many things in my life. Some of them actually happened.”
With the benefit of hindsight, often we see that things work out and our worry has not added value to the outcome. It only makes us feel like we are doing something.
Our preoccupation consumes us and robs us of the present.
There are only two days in the year in which nothing can be done. One is yesterday and the other is tomorrow. Today is the right day to believe, do and live.
