Over the last two weeks
both political parties have held their conventions.
In addition to nominating their President and Vice-President,
the major goal was to communicate their message.
Each party wanted its voice/s to be heard.

They communicated in a variety of ways –

  • through virtual and in-person;
  • with allies and celebrities;
  • by stoking fear and inspiring hope.

It made me think what we do as individuals
to make sure our message comes across.
In evaluating your communication style,
what do you do to ensure your voice is heard?

  1. Do you speak up or rely on others to do so on your behalf?
  2. Do you communicate through email, phone, text, Zoom or in-person
    (remember that approach pre-COVID)?
    Many of us hide behind emails when a voice conversation would be more effective.
  3. Do you prefer to focus on possibilities or consequences?
  4. How often are you repeating the same story thinking that
    your audience will hear it better with more repetition?
  5. What tone is your message conveying?

While it is important to tailor the message to the situation and audience,
intentionally focusing on what and how you deliver it
will ensure that your voice is heard.
