Her nametag said Tigress Amanda. She served me a brownie sundae at a diner last week. When was the last time your server was a tigress?
My curiosity peaked and I learned that our server was only a tigress while waiting tables. (I don’t know what her prior boyfriends would say).
The restaurant was holding a contest and her location was in third place. The winning team was to spend an evening on a dinner cruise on the Potomac. She and the kitchen staff were quite enthusiastic about the prospect of winning.
It struck me how excited she and the team were. She shared her goal and playfulness with us. She enrolled us in her vision. The competition and hope of winning created camaraderie and motivation.
We can have serious objectives, but we don’t have to take ourselves so seriously. We can have fun and share that playfulness with colleagues and clients. Perhaps, then, it won’t seem like such a jungle out there.
