Most of us are dealing with many priorities. Like a juggler, we keep many balls in the air.
I saw a talented juggler at a leadership conference last week. Watching him keep the balls in the air while creating different patterns without dropping them was amazing.
His recommendation was to focus on the top of the arc and focus in that moment. Juggling offers other tips for leadership and daily living.
- Stay focused. Keep your eye on the ball.
- Keep your peripheral vision. Often we only see what is directly in front of us. We lose perspective, miss other vantage points and points of view.
- Be aligned and synchronized. Our lives, like balls in the air, have many moving parts. Once we take in various perspectives, it is easier and less stressful to move projects forward and make progress when goals and values are aligned and in sync.
- Be totally present. When our minds are wandering to the past or future, focusing in the now is challenging. Keeping the balls in the air requires the ability to have awareness of the current situation and adapt accordingly.
Juggling, like leadership, is an art. Following these guidelines will help you perform well.
