I have been cleaning out my closets as many of us do at this time of year.
The process reminds me of people and dynamics in an organization. Like pieces in our wardrobe, some are more comfortable and we choose to be with them most of the time. Just like our favorite outfits, we have our “go to” people with whom we bounce ideas and share confidences.
Other items in my closet will work if I alter them. Perhaps some relationships work better when we alter our approach. They fit better when we make changes.
Other garments can work if I pair them with new seasonal items. I do not need to get rid of them; they just need a new perspective.
Do you know people or situations that could benefit from updated thinking? How would a fresh view make an impact? How could you facilitate a makeover?
I do have some pieces that are not a good fit anymore. I need to let them go. Perhaps there are people in your organization who do not fit into the culture or who are not performing. It could be time to let them find a better fit elsewhere.
Cleaning out your closet can give you a new perspective. It certainly creates space for possibilities!
