Today is a day when we remember and honor Dr. Martin Luther King and those who sacrificed their lives to create freedom for all in our country.
Martin Luther King died in the war on civil rights. Although it was a different kind of battle than our military heroes fight, it was in service to our country and keeping all of our citizens free and safe.
I recently saw Dr. Clarence Jones speak. He worked with Martin Luther King over the years and helped write his I Have a Dream speech. Jones said, “Hope has two daughters- anger and courage.”
Anger is often a spark for change. Courage is the catalyst for hope. Having the courage to speak up, to take risks and do what it takes to implement change creates a feeling that things can be different. As new possibilities emerge, so does optimism.
Anger alone will not generate hope. Martin Luther King was one of our greatest leaders who gave hope to millions. Anger at injustice and courage to act on it changed the world. Hope has a powerful family!
In tribute to Dr. King and all the men and women and their families who sacrificed to generate equality in our country.
