I’m frequently asked, “How do you grow your business?” There is no exact recipe, but I believe there are three key ingredients:
- Do what you enjoy
- Be yourself
- Be present
It’s easy to attract people when we are doing activities that bring us joy. An energy and openness exists and abundance flows.
I love to play tennis, golf, eat, shop, travel and volunteer. I have met clients on the tennis court, at wine dinners and casual lunches, on airplanes and through non-profit organizations.
Recently while combining two favorite pastimes-eating and shopping, I met a woman who sold golf clothing (okay- three pastimes). I attended a ladies vendor luncheon instead of staying in my office to make calls or return emails. A couple of days later, I received a call to be a guest on a cable TV show discussing career changes. As it turns out, the referral was from my luncheon acquaintance.
People and activity show up when we are doing what we love. We are ourselves and fully present without an agenda, guilt or worry.
When we force ourselves to do the “should” networking or marketing events, we are often not as successful at meeting those who would help our business to grow.
My experience tells me to go with the flow. Do what you enjoy and the growth will come. It’s certainly a lot more fun!!!
