On this President’s Day we pause to honor George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, two men who impacted the founding and continuation of our country.
Lincoln has been in the spotlight in recent years, as the subject of both Steven Spielberg’s recent movie, Lincoln, and Doris Kearns Goodwin’s book, Team of Rivals.
Lincoln, like all leaders, had to make some unpopular and controversial decisions. He did what he thought was right and that belief guided him.
He showed us the concept of putting diverse perspectives together and not just relying on those who agree with us. He valued those who challenged him.
- When you are faced with decisions, who do you rely on for input?
- Do you actively seek various points of view that differ from yours?
- What gives you courage to move forward in the face of difficult decisions?
Understanding your decision process will help you make more conscious decisions. Just as we live today with the legacy of our forefathers’ decisions, others will be living with the consequences of our actions in days to come.
