Watching the Final Four playoffs this weekend was a lesson in leadership and determination.
Freshman players to seniors gave their all as they ran up and down the court switching from offense to defense.
Each player brings a different strength. The coach’s role is to help maximize the individual’s ability and create a unified team.
In addition, each coach has to adjust direction and strategy throughout the game based on the competition and events unfolding.
As a leader it is important to balance the desired results for the team with the individual attention given to developing each person and leveraging his/her potential.
- How well do you know your team members’ strengths and weaknesses?
- What do you do to maximize their abilities?
- How often and how quickly do you evaluate the competition or circumstances and change direction as needed?
Creating a winning team requires:
- Passion
- Talented players and a customized plan for their individual development and
- An ability to rebound.
