In my hometown of New Orleans people love to eat beignets and coffee. These fried dough donuts have no hole in the center. They are puffed inside with air and best served with lots of powdered sugar on top.
They put a smile on peoples’ faces because of their delicious taste.
They are also a great reminder for how to look at life. Many people focus on the negative aspects in their lives, work, mate or fill in the blank. They forget to remember what is actually there. The positive gets diminished, especially for perfectionists.
When we remember the whole and don’t just focus on the hole, we can generate greater happiness, even without powdered sugar.
As a friend once said, “As you go through life let this always be your goal, keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.”
