As I was walking through BWI airport I saw Barack Obama’s face embossed on a chocolate lollipop. Georgetown Cupcake is making special inauguration cupcakes. CNN advertises commemorative plates. A star studded line up of performers gave a concert at the Lincoln Memorial yesterday.
People want to commemorate and celebrate this historic event. It is rare to be a witness to history. History is different than politics. We know that this moment will be written about in textbooks.
Just as we read about Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream Speech,” Obama’s words will be repeated often.
It is appropriate that we celebrate King’s birthday today. Tomorrow we will see his vision come to fruition as Obama becomes the first African-American U.S. President.
It is a wonderful reminder to keep dreaming, even if you cannot see the results immediately.
