Recently I went hiking at Oregon Ridge, a beautiful park 20 minutes from my home. I knew the park existed; however, I did not know that it had hiking paths.
Two weeks later I had a similar learning when a friend and I went hiking in another place. She had grown up in Baltimore and never knew this park existed.
Both days were a lot of fun and a whole new world opened up each time.
How often do you miss things in your own backyard? How often are you open to new experiences or ideas? Being curious and open to what is going on around us can expand our world.
Even being willing to explore the other departments and people in our organizations and looking at them with fresh eyes can create opportunities. We may know they exist yet we do not know the intricacies of their landscape.
Take time to be an explorer. You never know what new trails you could blaze.
