At Halloween ghosts and gremlins appear and try to scare us. The truth is we live with ghosts and gremlins every day. We are just more aware of them on October 31st.
Ghosts from the past may be in our organization. The legacy of former bosses or colleagues can still impact the culture or our beliefs. Ghosts can also be parents, teachers or others from our past. We hear old tapes that do not apply today and, yet, they hold us back.
Gremlins also talk to us daily. These are the voices that tell us, “we can’t,” “we should,” “we aren’t good enough,” or “we might fail.” These gremlins stop us because they scare us. They sabotage us and our dreams. We forget to realize that they are gremlins and not our true self.
You do not need to call Eddie Murphy and the Ghostbusters. You just need to be aware when ghosts and gremlins appear. Start to recognize their favorite sayings and realize how they may stop you. Engage in a dialogue with them, discover and address their true fears (and yours) and move forward with your own voice.
Ghosts and gremlins will be less scary when you recognize their presence and their impact and address their beliefs.
Happy Halloween!!
