After I checked in with the curbside porter at the airport last week and showed him my driver’s license, he returned to me with my claim tickets and license in hand and said, “You were born on a Friday, weren’t you?” “Yes,” I said. “How did you know?”
I was both baffled and amazed. After all the years of showing it to porters, bar bouncers and bank tellers, no one has ever attempted to guess (let alone correctly) the day of the week on which I was born.
People have many talents. Some are unique and others more common. Some are obvious and others are hidden, only appearing in certain situations. As we get to know people we discover their abilities.
By being open and not prejudging or stereotyping, we create the opportunity to be surprised and perhaps even delighted.
