The 4th of July represents our values of freedom and independence.
I coach many people who, 250 years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence, strongly desire to honor these values.
Everyone defines them differently. Many see financial freedom or self reliance as the answer. I would argue that choice and our perspective are the keys to living freely and independently.
When we see ourselves as able to choose our path or direction, we have freedom. We can still be independent and ask others for help. In fact, people who see themselves truly at choice are able to ask for support because they do not define themselves by the action. It’s an inner feeling, perspective or mindset. When we feel like a victim or needy, we feel without choice. We have a narrow perspective. We lose our freedom and independence.
This 4th, celebrate choice. Continue to choose your path and perspective. You will be living the values our founding fathers fought for.
