Given the last year
and the fact that we are now in Spring
when the flowers are blooming
and greenery is growing,
this quote by Katherine May from Wintering seems appropriate.
a long march from birth to death in which we mass our powers,
only to surrender them again, all the while slowly losing our youthful beauty.
This is a brutal untruth. Life meanders like a path through the woods.
We have seasons when we flourish and seasons when the leaves fall from us, revealing our bare bones.
Given time, they grow again.”
2020 put all of us on a major detour.
From health concerns to high school graduates that did not go straight to college,
to cancelled weddings, to lost jobs, life shifted for everyone.
Work environments changed as dining room tables
became conference tables and
bedrooms turned into board rooms.
This past year taught us the art of the pivot
as expectations and circumstances changed.
Often we expect to go from A to Z and
forget that we may get turned around at H
or have to pivot at J.
As we emerge from the pandemic
and see some light at the end of this tunnel,
we also have learned how resilient we can be.
We can grow in new areas,
just as a tree develops new blooms and branches.
Think about:
- What has been your biggest detour?
- What is one way you have grown?
- What is a change you have made that
you will continue through the seasons?
