We lost an hour yesterday when we set our clocks back due to daylight savings. (Some of us are still feeling tired as a result!)
Many of us lose time daily due to our habits and not the time of year. I’ve observed four major reasons from hundreds of people I have coached.
- Worry: Worrying takes a lot of our time and does not usually resolve the situation.
- Rehashing: We frequently replay conversations or situations in our mind. It takes our time, causes us to second guess and often adds to our time worrying (See #1).
- Distractions: In today’s hi speed, hi-tech world, we are bombarded with distractions. From email to the internet vortex, to pop up messages on our phones, we lose our focus and countless hours.
- Disorganization: Misplacing objects and searching for files on the computer or under the piles on our desk takes time.
While you only have 24 hours in a day, when you get into action, set boundaries, stay present and develop organizational systems, you can count on not losing time. In fact, you’ll likely maximize the hours you do have, creating your own personal savings time.
