When I travel and drive between cities sometimes it is difficult to find a radio station that comes in clearly. There is often static on the airwaves. When I travel and set my phone alarm clock, I wake up to Pharell Williams’ song, Happy.
A friend of mine and noted speaker, Simon Bailey, says that whatever you hear frequently, you will get on that frequency.
My travel experiences are examples from the outside world. However, we also have an internal frequency that impacts our mood, confidence and behaviors. The message we hear can support and encourage us or cause us to question and doubt.
Words and expressions that top the charts on many people’s hit lists are “Sorry,” “Just,” “Try,” “I’m not qualified,” or “Am I good enough?” These expressions can minimize us if repeated too often. “I don’t know” can cause static.
In addition, we hear noise from all around us that can be distracting. Other people’s judgments, opinions and expectations can block the airwaves.
Giving ourselves acknowledgement, pep talks and encouragement and giving permission and forgiveness to ourselves are ways to generate positive airwaves.
What are you hearing frequently and how is it impacting your frequency?
