Exotic PlacesMany of us are taking vacations this summer. Some of us take staycations, some of us go to familiar places for rest and relaxation and some of us travel as tourists to new destinations with the hope of adventure and exciting experiences.

What is the tourist mindset? We are curious. We like to discover new things. We are intrigued with different cultures, and, in fact, relish learning about them. We try to learn as much as we can about others and their lands. It helps to be open-minded.

We can bring this approach to our land we call work.

  • What if you were a tourist in your organization?

  • What if the departments or silos in your organization were new territories to explore?

  • What if you wanted to learn about your colleagues’ backgrounds and beliefs so you could increase your understanding of their land?

  • What if you could communicate in their language?

  • What if you were open to new ideas?

  • What if you did not feel threatened or frustrated by differences, and, instead, celebrated them?

By becoming a tourist in your own organization and better understanding your colleagues’s lands, you can generate peace across departmental borders. Your journey will be a lot more effective and fulfilling!
