Yesterday Nik Wallenda, daredevil and tightrope artist, walked across the Grand Canyon on a high wire without a tether or safety net. This was the first time anyone performed this feat.
While you might not be a professional risk taker, we all have edges to cross. Often it takes stepping out of our comfort zone to cross a boundary or break a barrier. It can feel risky and scary. It takes courage, commitment to the desired outcome and an ability to see ourselves as greater than we are.
Wallenda said that he focused on 50-100 feet in front of him. Taking things one step at a time and focusing on what is in front of us in this moment is a good strategy. Frequently we get distracted by all of the noise surrounding us.
- What is the frontier you want to cross?
- What will it mean?
- What is the next step to take?
As Wallenda says when he signs autographs, “Never give up!”
