As I was taking step aerobics class last week, I was getting frustrated because the instructor did not always give us advance directions for the next move. She assumed that everyone knew it.
Midway through class she realized her lack of communication and said that it created drama. (She was right about that!) She then began to tell us where we were going.
When we do not have direction we get frustrated and lose enthusiasm. As leaders we can give people an idea of where we are headed or at least our intention. We should not assume that people know.
People can follow if they know the steps. Without knowing, they can get stuck or keep repeating the same old move as I did when I did not know the next step.
Consistently communicating the direction will keep your team moving. It will also increase their energy and effectiveness.
