During the Veteran’s Day acknowledgements last week I heard an interview with a Medal of Honor recipient.
Like many honorees he did not take credit for his heroism. He just did what he had to do and credited his team for supporting each other and working together.
Most of our accomplishments are achieved through the help of others. As such, trust is a basic tenement for success. As this soldier said, you have to trust that the person next to you has your back. You trust that by wearing the uniform you are on the same team, even if you don’t like each other or know each other well. You are committed to the same goals.
Trust creates the bond that generates success. As you reflect on your team, consider:
- How strong is trust?
- Do others have your back and do you have theirs?
- Are you aligned around a common purpose and work together well regardless of the situation?
Our military men and women know how to create strong bonds that foster both team and individual accomplishment. Are you working to do the same?
